CHILDREN AT DRILL
MAIN SCHOOL MARCHING COMPETITION. A novelty greatly enjoyed by the pupils was the marching competition held at the Hawera Main School this morning- The children were grouped according to sizes and ages, and the juniors were allowed a small handicap to offset the advantages of the older children. Sergeant-Major Stevens, of the Permanent Defence Staff, judged the marching, and at the conclusion commented very favourably upon the standard attained. Hie competition, in which all the boys and girls of the standards competed, was won bv Miss Burgess’ squad, with Miss Grindrod’s second and the others close. , ■
