The A to L Public Petitions Committoereportedl in the House of representatives yesterday that it had no recommendation to make in regard to the petition ot ft . 12. Barnes, Wellington, who claimed a retain of £42. extradition expenses in connection with a charge of j'otff&r.v. hr 1\ Fraser pointed oat that Barnes, had been robbed of L'dCO from his. Post Office Savings Bank account as the result of a clumsy forgery. The person responsible for the iorgery left for Australia and the police refused to take steps to extradite him unless Barnes .found the necessary expenses, amounting to £42. This Baines did, and the defendant was brought back and convicted. The amount of £3UO was returned to Barnes, but lie was not recompensed for the £42 which he had expended to bring about the extradition. An amendment was moved that the report be referred back to the committee for further consider;!- 1 tion. and after a lengthy discussion a division was called for and the -amendment was lost by 27 votes to 44.—Press Association.
