LOWER CHARGES TO AUSTRALIA WANTED.

The recent campaign to reduce Pacific cable rates to Australia -and the Orient has -resmlted in a cut of five cents per word off the full rate and three and a half cents a word off the deferred fate to various points in the Orient. Tolls to Honolulu have- been given a. three cents cut off the full rate- and one and a half cents off the deferred rate. Canadian traders, in urging a reduction to Australia, contend that a great deal of trade increase would follow. The whole question wi'i] be discussed -a-t the forthcoming convention of the chambers of commerce and further representations will he made to the Government .
