LONDON, Sept, 4. To-day was one of the most thrilling at Cal shot since practice began. The super-marine S 6 failed to rise from the water with a full load of petrol. When it readied a high tak-ing-off speed the machine wobbled badly on its floats, and also failed with smaller (loafs. Three attempls proved fruitless. Britain is therefore faced with a taking-off difficulty as far as (lie S 6 machines are concerned.
Another thrill was provided when another S 6 machine was descending. It headed direct towards a tug, and vain attempts were made to alter the course. Mechanics climbed out of tile cockpit and stood on the floats, from where they were able to find that the machine’s off wing was slightly damaged
ITALIAN PLANE HAS NARROW ESCAPE.

The Italian Macclii machine had a narrow escape from disaster. It was taxiing when an Italian speed-bond cut across its path. The pilot slowed down to avoid tlm boat and then got up speed again, only to find the liner Majestic steaming directly in its path. With a burst of speed, the machine shot directly beneath the bows, but the wash tossed iho plane ominously. Tim pilot unhesitatingly took off, but, then discovered that one of the struts Was broken. He made a magnificent landing- without mishap. Experts say that, the race will be Avon at a speed of three hundred miles per hour.
