HOTEL LICENSE FKES. ißy Telegraph —Cress HAMILTON, Sept. 5. The Hamilton Borough Council last night referred to a committee the question of urging the Government to increase hotel license fees, and to arrange for a sliding scale according to population. BENEFIT TROTTING MEETING. DUNEDIN, Sept. 5. The Forbury Bark Trotting Club has received telegraphic, advice, from the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle that a permit has been granted for the earthquake relief meeting to be. held on October 26, with a remission of taxes.
FELLAfONGERS WANT EXPORT
TAX. WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. A request that the Government should impose an export tax on all sheepskins shipped in wool and on all scouring wools shipped in grease, or alternatively that an embargo -should be placed on the export of such commodities. was made to- Sir Joseph AVa-rd, the Minister of Education, and the Mi.nister of Customs to-day by a deputation representing the fellmongers and woofscouring industry. Sir Joseph Ward replied that- the matter was a very difficult _ one, hut was worthy of the fullest investigation. If an export tax were applied it would have to be general in application. He confessed that he did not know enough about the matter to> give a definite reply, and he promised to have it thoroughly investigated.
