LONDON, Sept. 4. it is authoritatively stated that the Empire beam and telegraphy systems are being handed oVer to the merger company at the end of September Jt was also stated that the Post Office, originally budgeting to work the beams at a small profit, found that it was converted to such a large surplus through the growth of traffic that it was contemplating a substantial cut ,m rates before the merger was mooted. this proposal had definitely evaporated, because it was pointed out that the basis of capitalisation of themerger precluded any chance of reduction for a long time ahead, though there is little fear of any increase. Regarding wireless telephony to Australia, it was stated that it would be at least six months before a commercial service was instituted. This would be definitely retained in the hands of the Post Office.
