ELTHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Eltluim Sschool Committee was held on Tuesday evening, when there were present: Messrs W. Ricketts (chairman), J. C. Walsh, C. C. Stanner.s, A. R. Kemp, and Rev. J. A. Eybnrn. The headmaster (Mr. R. E Thomas) was also present. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. The headmaster submitted the J'ollowmg report for the month of August: The average attendance for the month was 4I)S (boys 218, girls 190), and for the quarter 887.8 (boys 218, girls 169.8). The roll number at the end of the quarter was 450 (boys 255, girls 195). The number of pupils admitted during the quarter was CO, and the number withdrawn was 37. At present standard 2 is being taught in the Technical School building. Mr. It. Syme, instructor in agriculture, reports that the scheme of work has been completed and will cover a good course of work, and that good progress is being made with the course of indoor work. Arrangements for the planting of trees along the southern boundary of the school grounds, as recommended by him, have been made. School will be opened after tile holidays on Tuesday, 10th inst. Accounts amounting to 65 Os Id were passed for payment. The secretary for the ball, Mr. Kemp, reported that the profit from the function amounted to £26 9s 3d. Mi{. J.. CL Walsh and Rev. M/r. Avery were appointed a visiting committee for the current month. The secretary of the Education Board advised that the application of the committee for a subsidy of £l7 10s on heating would be granted on receipt of vouchers for the expenditure of £35 10s. Rev. Mr. R.yburn and Mr. J. C. Walsh were appointed a committee to consider the question of an ornamental fence along the east side of the football ground. A vote of thanks to the secretai’y ot the ball and the ladies’ committee and teaching staff for their great- assistance was carried by acclamation.
