In a statement to the Press to-day the Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways) gave some interesting particulars regarding the programme of the department. The policy of giving Ntnv Zealand industries as much support as possible is exemplified in the recent acceptance of tenders for the Xgaruawahia and' Whenuakura bridges. Steel plates and shafts of a total of 500 tons will be imported from Great Britain, but the whole of the fabrication of steel work will be done in the Dominion. The successful tenderers arc: Rope, for Xgaruawahia, and Bird and Codling Bros, for Whenuakura. In addition to the encouragement of local industry, these bridges mark the beginning of an extensive programme of reconstruction of old timber bridges in steel and concrete, to take the heavy type of engines now employed. The Whenuakura bridge is near Patea. The Xgaruawahia bridge crosses the Waikato River. —Press Association. Woods ’ Great Peppermint Cure for Coughs and Colds, never fails. —Advt,
