THE SMILE CASTLE MAIL-BAG

Meremere. Dear Smile Queen, —While the hoiitl/ays are on i might have a hit of tome to make something tor the gift cuphoard. It was a beautiful day today, but yesterday it was windy and cold. We finished our exam, on Friday, and I came third with 330 marks. Our tank is empty, and to-day we were carrying water from the cowshed. The cows are coming in quickly now. I heip to feed the calves, and the calves that drink with the finger sometimes bite your fingers. My brother was gjoing away for a holiday, hut the people did not come for him. I cut some pictures out yesterday, and I think 1 will make a book for you. About how many Smiles have you now. Smile Queen?. N"o more news. Love from Queenie Colt-art. (We will be pleased to receive something for the gift cupboard from you, Queenie. -Congratulations; you did very well at your exam. The calves make a Jot of work, don’t they? How long does one have to hand-feed! them ? Lore.—S.Q.j

Dear Smile Queen, —Last- week I forgot to send the dofl, but I will ,9end it this time. We might be milking with the machines to-night, as the men are putting them in. I was going down to play with my mate, Mavis Garrett, today, but I didn’t because we were expecting visitors. I am not going away tor my holidays because we have forty cows in, and I will have to help in the shed soon. We are feeding nineteen calves now. Mv little sister is not very wed to-day; she had ear-a che th is morniiig, but she is asleep just now. On .Friday we broke up for two weeks’ holiday, and we gave our school a good wash. I will now close with best love from Dora Coltart.

(How did the machines work, Dora? I hype you found everything all right. That is a. bis number of cows, and what a. lot of calves to have to feed'! Is the wee sister quite better again? Please give her my love. Love. —S.Q.)
