MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES.
COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE SCHEME.
IBy Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 29. A far-reaching .scheme of insurance was brought, before the Wellington City Council Just night. It is proposed that all till-© municipalities of New Zea/landi should unite for the purposes of insurance under the Municipal Association of New Zealand., and that each body concerned enters into a contract tc> (provide its proportion of the financial guarantee according to a basis to be arranged. The scheme means that all private company insurance would he dropped and all municipalities would pool their resources and risks in a common insurance combine of their own.
The Mayor stated that had this been done ten yeans ago a saving of £171,000 would have been effected, in Wellington. The municipal conference has approved of the proposals and as legislation i.s required a Bill has been drawn up, Which the Government will he asked to put through this session. The scheme was unanimously endorsed i>y the council.
