Mr A. F. Neilson, who has recently resigned his position as general manager of the Pihania Dairy Company, will leave from Auckland on September 6 for Australia.

The many friends of Itev. it. E. Evans, of the Presbyterian Church, Haw era, will learn with sorrow that his mother, for whose serious illness lie' was called to Auckland, passed away quietly yesterday.

Mr J. Brown was yesterday reelected chairman of directors of the Maketawa Dairy Company for the thirty-fourth year in succession. This is a record for Taranaki for dairy factory chairmen with regard to length of service. Mr M. Fleming, Pungarehu, has been chairman of the Cape Egmont. Company for 33 years. Sir Ernest M. Satow, diplomat, has died at the age of 86 years (states an Australian Press Association-United Service message from London). Sir Ernest entered the Japan consular service as a student interpreter in 1861. He became Minister-Resident at Bangkok in 1885. He subsequently held high offices in Monte Video, Morocco, Tokio and Peking. He has written and edited many works on Japanese subjects. Sir Ernest was- the third son of Mr Hans David Christopher Satow. Ho was educated in London. He was created G.C.M.G. in 1902 and a Privy Councillor in 1906.
