POPULAR. RESIDENTS FAREWELLED.

MR, AND MRS. W. MORSE

The esteem earned by Air. and Mik. W. Morse and family, of Patea, during their residence of several years was indicated at the farewell social tendered to them at the Foresters' hall on Tuesday last, when a large assembly of town and district residents met to extend appropriate wishes . Mr. P. S. Fiulayson, who presided, referred to, the loss the town was sustaining in the departure of their guests. During their residence in the town they had always been well to the fore in assisting any cause likely to benefit the town and district. Sports bodies especially would lose a keen and enthusiastic supporter. Among footballers Air. Alorse Would be remembered as the donor of the Alorse Cup for the annual seveiu-a-side tournament. On behalf of the townspeople lie wished Mr. and Airs. Alorse and Air. Gordon Alorse every happiness and prosperity in the future. All. J. A. AlcKenna (president of the Patea Coursing Club) also spoke in high terms of the assistance sporting circles had received from Air. W. Alorse.

After several other speakers had testified to the esteem in which the guests were held. Air. P. S. Finlavson presented Air. and All's. Alorse with a handsome silver tea service from the Central Hotel staff, a barometer from Whenuaknra friends, and a travelling run and handbag from Patea friends, and to Air. Gordon Alorse a leather suitcase.

During the evening vocal items were rendered by Messrs C. Sheahan, A\ . Alorse, Captain Tinney, and 'P. Carey.
