COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL.
RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED. In to-day’s “Hawera Star” there is published the time-table of the competitions festival, which will. be commenced on Monday, August 26, in the Opera Rouse at 9.30 a.m., and will be continued until Friday evening. In order to expedite the work —it must be recalled that the entries are easily a record and total no less than 725 — it is arranged that a second hail will be used for a portion of the work. This will relieve the pressure and considerably help the judges. The executive and the lion, secretary (Mr. T. F. McKenzie) have put in a lot of work in order to ensure that everything will go smoothly and to the satisfaction of all concerned. The programme for the week will commence on Monday, August 26, with recitation in costume, and thenceforward the business will go ahead as set out in the time-table with the utmost expedition. The official aecompaniste, Mrs. J. D. McQuin, will be at the Methodist schoolroom on Thursday, August 22, to give rehearsals for competitors. She will be there from 9 a.m till noon, and from 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. The judges will be Professor Maxwell Walker (Auckland University), elocution; Mr. E. R. Moss (Greymouth), music; Miss Gwen Gibbs j (Palmerston North), dancing. All are i held in high repute in their professions.
