(From Our Own Correspondent-.) FOOTBALL DINNER. At a dinner given to the Waimate F-o-otball Clnb by Mr and Mrs- E. j. Massey, at Mana-ia- on Wednesday, there was ai large attendance of players and supporters, presided over by Mr J. AY. Patensqn. After the 1-oyal toast had been honoured, Mi- A. J. Christie proposed the health of the Taranaki Rugby Union. The proposer referred to the good administrative work done, by the union and stated that although the union wasoften harshly criticised, football was well served by the personel of the governing body. Mr J. A\ r . Paterson, amember of the Taranaki Rugby Union, suitably responded 1 . Mr Ja-s. Hickey, in proposing the toast of the AA’aimate Club, referred to the great record of the club and congratulated the present members on their sporting spirit, as indicated in the match with Okaiawa that day. Messrs Long, Edwards and Elkington (on behalf of the Maori members) responded. Other toasts were .- “Selectors, and Referees,” proposed*by Mr Robertson and responded, to by Messrs Christie and E Iking ton; “Host and Hostess” — In proposing this, toast the chairman referred in glowing terms to the great, assistance rendered to the club by them.

MEETING OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE A meeting of the Ala.naia School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, at which there were present: Alesisrs A. Gamlini (chair). G. Eidwards, W. Vincent, G. Butler, C. Sole, T. A Bridge, and l Mrs A. Gamlin. The Taranaki Education Board advised that it had paid the £lO 3s. subsidy ou account gif ground improvement. The chairman stated that the donations to the dental clinic had come in well. It was decided to thank all donors, also Colonel and Mrs Sutherland for their financial assistance. Acknowledgment of the committee’s! donation of £SO towards the clinic was received. The architect is expected to do the work within a lew weeks. The Education Board advised that a grant had! been approved l for the erection of a combined science and class room. Air C. A. Wilkinson, ALP., wrote stating that applications for typewriters could only be considered on the basis of £ for £ subsidy on contributions raised by the committee, and he wanted to know if the committee could do anything in the way of raising contributions. The headmaster reported that the primary roll was 276, with an average attendance of 243. The secondary roll was 43, with an average of 40. In reply to Air Dale, the chairman said the erection of the shelter sheds was in the hands of the carpenters. *
