MOTOR CYCLE JOY RIDE.
UNLAWFUL CONVERSION. YOUTHFUL DEFENDANT WARNED Attention to. recent instances in the district of the removal and use of j motor vehicles without the knowledge or consent of the owners was drawn in the Hawerai Court yesterday by Sergeant J. Henry, who said that during the past ten days three such cases involving oars and one concerning a motion- cycle had! been reported in South Taranaki.- The Sergeant’s comment conveyed a warning that- stringent measures would be adopted against persons detected in the. practice. The remarks were made by the Sergeant, when Mr J. H.. Salkhon, S.M., was dealing, with Hilton Joseph Ramlose, 17J years of age, who pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully converting tp his own use- a motor cycle belonging to George Ferguson Strange, of Hawera. The Sergeant explained that defendant, who is employed on a farm at Ararata, tame to town on the evening of Saturday*, August 3, and departed with the motor cycle, which, the owner had left in Regent Street. He rode the machine to Ararata. that evening and had taken a further ride the following day. When interviewed ho had admitted! the offence. The machine had not been damaged. Defendant was under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer. He seemed to ho lacking in the sense of right and wrong and had a tendency towards thieving aind lying. Warning defendant that lie was extending a 1 final chance, the magistrate entered a conviction and ordered defendant- to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months.
