A vote of sympathy with Rev. W. Watson, a member of the Pa tea Hospital Board, was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the board. Mr AVatson lies seriously ill in the' hospital. Air E,. Hall, at present of Kairanga, ha® been appointed general manager of the Pihama Co-op, Dairy Company in succession to Air A. F. Neilson. Air Hall its well known in the district, haying some veairs ago been a member of the staff to the Rahotn and Pihama factories, both during the regime of Air Neilson.

At Alonday night’s meeting of the ATatapu branch of the Farmers’ Union a resolution was passed congratulating Air J. AIL Deem*, of the Department of Agriculture, on his recent promotion to director of the Fields Division ..

The death occurred at Eltham on Saturday of an old and respected citizen, Mrs AV. J. Phillips, at the age of 71. She had been a resident of the Dominion since 1860. Her father was a minister of the Presbyterian. Church. Her parents settled in the AVellington district, where she lived until 14 years ago, when she came to Eltham. She was married to William James Phillips at Wellington in 1880, where he was engaged as a printer in the Government printing office, retiring to Eltham 14 years ago. Site is survived bv her husband (Eltham), Airs C. J. Holland (Opotiki), Air N. Phillips (Eltliam). Airs S. G. Norris (Eltham). and Mr L. Phillips (Eltham). A pleasant function took place at Pihama on Saturday night, when friends assembled to bid farewell to the Aliases Neilson. who leave shortly to reside in New Plymouth. The function was organised by Alias E. Read and Miss Jean Allan. During the evening Mr Fred. Read, on behalf •of friends, presented Afiss Irene- Neilson with a salmon xylonite ware dressing table set. Alias Grace with a suit case, and little Lynn Neilson with a book. Air A. F. Neilson responded on behalf of his daughters. A most enjoyable evening was spent in games and dancing. and songs were rendered by Afiss Fund. Simper was provided by the ladies. —“Optima ke Times.”
