New South Wales retained the KirkWindeyer golf cup from New Zealand by 3), matches to 24. New Zealand made a magnificent light in the singles and their defeat was primarily due to E. Apperley’s superb play against. Sloan Morpeth.

The scores in the first round were: K. Ross (N.Z.) and Hector Morrison, all square; E. Apperley (N.S.W.) 7 up on Sloan Morpth; .1. Black (N.Z.) 2 up oa Keane (replacing I. If. Harrison); T. 11. Morton N.Z.) 6 up on C. If. Fawcett. Second round: Ross and *Morrisoit, all square; Apperley, 7 up on Morpth; Black, 5 up on Keaue; Horton, 6 tip on Fawcett. Apperley, formerly Australian amateur champion, gave a wonderful exhibition, his 72 being a links record in competition play. -Morpeth, with 79, was off his play in second shots, though outdriving Apperley. The latter always more than recovered on the second. .Morpeth did not. win a. Otole till the 12th. In the second round Morpth commenced brilliantly, but his sensational effort, out in 34, regained only two holes from the relentless Apperley. It I was a good struggle, but the New South Wales .man again assorted himself and won handsomely. Morrison and Ross provided a great duel in which Ross made a good finish to square the match, winning three out: of the last five holes through steadiness an the green. Ross missed a fourfooter'at the third hole to win. At the 13th he was three up. Morrison holed a 10-yarder to win the 14th and a 12footer for the 15th. In the Horton-Fawcett game Horton left nothing to chance and gave a good exhibition. At the first he drove 375 yards and holed out with a full mashic for an eagle two. In the second round tin* game was patchy with Fawcett faulty on the greens. In the Black-Keane game Black was more at home. He was steadier and played with greater sureness than evidenced previously, his putting being good in the second round.

At the conclusion of the match Mr W. A. Windever. in presenting the cup to Eric Apperley, captain of the New South Wales team, stated it was a pleasure to witness the galaxy of talent engaged in the contest. It undoubtedly would do good to the sport. The New Zealand representation would help to bind the ties of friendship already made at An/.ac. He trusted that in the future Australian teams would visit New Zealand in return for what lie considered one of the pluckiest fights and the best golf he had seen.
