MR. SNOWDEN’S OBJECTIONS.

A DISCUSSED EY DELEGATES

RHJ NELAND E’VACUAT! ON

(United Press Association--By Electric 'telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.)

THE HAGUE, Aug. 11. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent reveals that the Rt. Hon. Philip Snowden’s policy was unanimously approved by the Cabinet, after oaueful consideration. If. the Prime Minister (tiie Rt. Hon. Ramsay MacDonald) went to The Hague, as it was rumoured, it would he for tile purpose ol backing up the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The whole country ha,s shown that it thoroughly endorses Mr Snowden s stand. The Continental cry that peace in Europe would be endangered in the event of a disagreement is regarded as a melodramatic exaggeration. The correspondent pointed out the absurdity of the suggestion, because, in the event of the failure of the conference, the Dawes plan would stall continue in operation. The “Daily Mail’s” Lossiemouth correspondent says that Mr MacDonald, in a statement to-night, said: “In view of the statements which; have been widely read on the Continent that Mr Snowden As bluffing, I want to make it perfectly clear that Iris claim that Britain has now come to the limit of bearing unfair burdens has the support of us all. I state so irrespective of parties.” The situation arising out of Mr Snowdlera’s speech at The Hague conference on reparations was discussed yesterday by the French, Belgian, Italian, and Japanese delegates' outside the conference.

According to Press correspondents one result of the discussion was apparently an agreement that Mg Snowden’s objections regarding deliveries in kind might, be met.

What Is regarded as a real step towards the continuation of the financial side of the conference was made when tho finance committee met this morning.

Reply in ic to tlio speech by the lit. Hon. W. khm. President of the British Board! of Trade, who explained the British viewpoint regarding deliveries in kind, M. Olieron, French Finance Minister, saiid _ that this matter was open to discussion and indicated that a wav out of the difficulties was possible. On the other two points of Mr Snowden’s objections, namely, the redaiction of the British percentage of reparations receipts and the assignment of an un duly large proportion of unconditional payments to France, the result of yesterday’s discussions is not known.' On the political side of the conference progress has been made. The political committee yesterday resumed the discussion of the question of the evacuation of the Rhineland and accepted in principle the setting up of a technical sub-committee to work o ut the details erf evacuation. The actual composition and terms of reference of the committee were left until Monday. OUTBURST OF VITUPERATION FRENCH PRESS EXCELS ITSELF. PARIS, Aug. 12. ' Mr Snowden’s words, “ridiculous and grotesque,” have caused a record outburst of vituperation. Some of the newspapers excuse him on the ground of the precarious state of his health. Other writers refer to his lack of breeding.

“La. Liberte” ironically congratulates Mr Snowden upon li.i.s diplomatic .manners and) on inventing a new vocabulary for tho use of chancellories. The “Journal ties Debats” says the French delegation should understand that with speakers like Air Snowden tact smell consideration are out of tho question.
