HOTEL LOUNGERS STARTLED.
OAR ENTERS BARROOM. LADY DRIVER’S CAREER. Swerving twice, first to- avoid- a boy 011 a bicycle and- secondly a startled pedestrian, a young lady successfully steered a light touring oar through the swing doors of the Metropolitan Hotel in Queen Street, Auckland, on Tuesday morning (state® the New Plymouth “Herald” correspondent’’.) and brought the ear’s career to a. halt among the hiailif handles, much to the astonishment of the barman and a number of thirsty Aucklanders whose thoughts were far from motoring at the time. Many witlings hands were lent to push, t-he oar oat into- the street again and. it was s-oon on its way down the load. No one was hurt. It was -aJ remarkable incident in its way for the ear, which had considerable speed, struck the swing doors at almost ;■ angles to thrust them open and the sides with a very sin-all marr- * of space. When visitors 011 the -premises got ver the initial shock they saw a great deal of humour -in the situation and t! ere were many facetious remarks, including reference to the car’s not being ■ •-• hi-bvted and tlie possibility of the radiator feeling dry. * .oireotly startled customer i® re- .
