RADIO FOR HOSPITAL.
INSTALLATION il\ PROGRESS. As the result of efforts that have been made during the past 12 months by a committee under Dr. J. Al.cGhie, the patients at the Hawera. Hospital will shortly bo able to enjoy the re-ception-of radio programmes. Through the generosity of the people of the district about £7OO was liaised, and recently a. contract was let to a: Wellington firm 'for the installation of receiving appartus and' the. wiring of the wards’.
Two receivers? have afiready been installed —one in the nurses’ home .and the other in the main building—■afiiid/ three aeria's have been erected. T\\ o wards have already been wired, and work on the others is progressing. Loudspeakers will be installed in the children’s ward, but in tile other wards pillow-phones will be provided, and patients who wish to sleep or for other reasons not deisire to listen will he able to cut off their own connection. The wiring is being done in lead-cover-ed cable and is very neatly concealed, points being located, near each patient’s bed so that he or she may plug in at will. It will be some weeks yet before thy. installation will be in workng order.
