NEW SCHEME DISCUSSED. E LEM IN ATING SALES COMPETITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., July 19. The scheme lor 00-ordnated dairy marketing by the formation of empire dairies was explained to a, large meeting of factory representatives at Palmerston North yesterday bv Messrs. Grounds and Good fellow, the' former announcing that from the present indications. fifty per cent, of New Zealand butter would; be available for handling by the organisation during the coming season. No estimates had been made concerning cheese. Mr. urged acceptance'of the proposals as being the soundest practicable method aidvonted. He stated that if ever Australia experienced a season of high production .simultaneously with, the maximum period of New Zealand’s the marketing position would be <a. perilous one unless the position was controlled. Only a. fortunate combination of circumstances prevented this occurrence last season. Mi'. Goodfollow indicated that the proposal was not to enter on active business competition with Too ley Street on the consignment, basis, but. to fix prices. It would be easy to arrange adequate finance. The object was to eliminate sales competition. The offer to the industry was adequate representation. two thirds of the profits, business freedom, f.o.b. sales, rebable' ami independent information, and provided sufficient produce were secured, a better average price.
