RUGBY.

POVERTY iBAY DEFEATS AYAIKATO. (liv Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, July IS. Before a crowd of nearly 3000 and on a wet, muddy ground, Poverty Bay defeated the touring Waikato ißughv fifteen by 10 points to 3. The game was more even than the score indicates, Waikato being unlucky not to score on two occasions, while they missed an easy kick in front of the posts. The Waikato 'backs handled the ball and combined well but they lacked penetration. The forwards were evenly matched, with Fleming, Kaye and Bourke the most prominent. Thomas played a great game at fullback, while Story and Abosper were the most conspicuous of the others.
