ELECTRICAL SUPPLY.

(To the Editor.) Sir, — C feel I am on very 'dangerous ground in .attempting to enter 'the present controversy on the above subject., and do not wish to be drawn into the cross fight between “K.V.A.,” E. K. Cameron, W. G. Simpson, and the Ratepayers’ Association. At 'the same time, knowing the freedom you offer your subscribers, I wish to express my op in ion on this very important subject. In the first place I cannot see any gain to the ratepayers, why such good correspondents .as “K.V.A.” and Messrs Cameron and Simpson should waste their time and your valuable space in a mere dogfight of personalities when we ratepayers would be far more pleased to read their considered opinion as to why we would be better off under either Power Board or company. lam sure, Mr Editor, there must be hundreds of ratepayers like myself that have only read the Power Board’s .side as published by Mr Bone, and are quite prepared to listen to anyi th.ing reasonable that the company or its followers can put up. I was very pleased to read “Spotlight’s” letter to-night. This is the class of correspondence we want. Wo ask the district’s broad-minded men to give us their views and enable us to form an opinion for ourselves on the day of tbe poll. I must admit up to the' present outside what Mr Bone has published, we have not had anything put before us to assist ns to make a comparison which is the best for the district. “Spotlight” asks a very sensible question when he asks why is the company' so silent. Mv own .suspicions are that' they arc smiling at the prospect, of this plum of £40,000 goodwill falling into* their lap. Are we ratepayers going to treat this Power Board loan with the I same apathy .as we treated the Patea Harbour loan, with the same result, and let any body of shareholders, the most of whom live outside the rating area, go away smiling with at least £IOO.OOO of our good money and leave our houses pledged for over, to get light at the same price as we arc getting it at present.

AVake up “K.V.A.,” Cameron, Simp, son and Co. Never mind which side you are on, combine and put your minds into the welfare of the district and thoroughly investigate the whole business. Come together and exchange vour views in public. As a united body you have strength in demanding information from both sides. Make this public for our benefit and do not let us make this company a present of approximately £40,000 just when we have, got their selling prices to a reasonable

rate, or allow us to vote ourselves into a rate with no better service thian we are getting.—l am, etc., WORKING RATEPAYER, Hawera, July 18, 1929.
