POPFLAB SETTLERS ENTERTAINED.

An indication of the popularity of Messrs James, Jqs*. and Jock McCarty, young banners of Auroa, wbo have been in the district al.l fneir .fives, and who have been prominent in various branches) of sport, was given bv the large attendance irour all parts of the district at a smoke concert given in their honour on Monday evening in the 4uroa Hall. Mr W. Bradford presided, and there Wilts a, long toast list after the -'oval toast. "Oar Guests" was, proposed by Messrs Bradford and Kissick: "Their Parents” (Messrs Bradford and J. Joyce): "The Dairy industry" (Messrs Kilpatrick. Morrissey and Benton): “Sports C tubs' ’ (Messrs Kruse. Birchall. Guthrie and .Kissick) ; “The Ladies” (Messrs J. McCarty. H. Lavery and B. Espin) ; "Business Interests" (Messrs Morrissey. Pettigrew. E. Sandford. J. McCarty. T. W. Eiaves <andi Kruse).

A presentation of a fountain pen ay a, token of esteem to each of the three hoys, nay made by the chairman, who said the AlcCartys had been in the district all their lives, having -been horn in Manura. They were good farmers and wout'd be much missed. Mr Bradford said that though they were leaving thci district he hoped they would return, for they would- be ail ways welcome.

During the evening a programme of selected items wais civen, community singing, recitations by Mr T. Blair ("•‘The' iCoen Steeple" and “How Mc-Douga-V Top (Kiel the Score") songs! by Mr P. Hammers,ley and haka by Mr Morrissev.
