THE MOTH AEROPLANE.
A LANDING MISHAP. ONLY SLIGHT DAMAGE. Captain 1). B. MacGregor, of Hamilton , who has been in the district Hying’ liis DH. Gipsy Moth aeroplane, Had a slight- mishap when landing in a paddock on Mr. C. R. Honeyfield’s farm near Wlienuakura yesterday morning. A sudden change of wind just after he reached the ground took the machine to a boxthorn hedge and it turned over on to the si-de of the road. Tli-e accident was due to • the want of room to manoeuvre. Captain Ala-c Gregor had with him Air. B Waterland as a passenger, and neither suffered any injury but a shaking, while the machine escaped with slight damage to the propeller. A lorry was procured and the tail of the machine lashed to the hack, and it was towed to Hawera, where it lies in a garage pending repairs that are necessary. The accident is the more to be regretted because Air. C. Trotter, of the Fanners’ Co-op. Association, had intended to fly from Waverley to Hawera to-day, after holding a sale in the former centre, and then continuing at another sale here. This would have been the first use of an aeroplane for commercial purposes in Hawera.
