Sir James Parr dined, with the Prince of Wales iait St. James’ Palace on Tuesday. Dr. R. J. R, Mecredy, Taranaki District Health Officer, who is visiting schools in the ITawera district, is a guest ait the Central! Hotel]. Miss A. Walsh, who was for a long time in business in Eltliam, and has for the past five years been resident in San Francisco, has returned for a spell and is the guest, of Air and Mrs Al. McGarry, Eltham. The appointment of Air John H. Kissling, oif Auckland, to the position of poultry manager at the Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North, is announced. It is rumoured Archbishop Michael Kelly, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, is likely shortly to be created a cardinal. He mil visit Rome next year in the ordinary course of his duties (says a Sydney message).

It is rumoured in political circles in Wellington that Sir Joseph Ward purposes leaving for Ehglanid in October. According to London papers he is likely to visit England before the end. of this year.

Sergeant POuiiliip Joseph Brown, of Dovonpoirt, is about to retire on superannuation after 34 years’ service with the Government, 34 years' of which have been passed in the police force.

Dr. El. Alarkliani Lee, of London, arrived at Auckland l by the Niagara this week to conduct practical examinations for the Associated. Board of the Royal Academy of Alusic and the Royal College of Atusic.

Air. li. F. Ward, district Public Trustee at Auckland, has been appointed manager of the Guardian Trust and Executors’ Company of New Zealand Limited, says an Auckland Press Association message. The present manager, Air. J. Al. Stokes, is in addition secretary of the South British Insurance Company, and the rearrangement will enable him to devote all his time to his secretaryship.
