FOUR SCORE AND TWO.
MR. CHARLES E. GIBSON. Hale and hearty at the age of four score years and two, Mr. Charles Edmund Gibson, of Hawera, celebrated the eighty-second anniversary of his birthday to-day, and was the honoured guest tit a gathering held at the residence of his son. Mr. B. C. Gibson, oi Mountain Road, Norrannhy.
During nearly seventy years of his lifetime Mr. Gibson’s home lias been in New Zealand. In 18(30, then 13 years of age, Air. Gibson arrived in New Zealand from England with his parents, who were among the early farm settlers in the Marton district. Some years later he went to live at Patea,'where he was variously employed till 1877, when he started a general store at Normanbv. Farming also occupied his attention, and in 188 b he became clerk to the Normanbv Town Board and secretary to the Normanbv Dairy Company He subsequently resigned those appointments to accept the position of secretary to the Hawera County Electric Light Company. Resigning that position some years ago. he has since lived in retirement at Hawera, where ho is still a well-known figure. The late Mr. John Gibson, of Patea, was an elder brother. Other brothers are Mr. H. G. Gibson, of Hawera, and Mr. A. Gibson, of Wanganui. It is the intention of Air. Gibson, whose residence has until recently been in Union Street. Hawera, to make his future home with his son at Normanby.
