As a result of being knocked down by a motor-car in King Street this afternoon, a girl named Betty Denton was admitted to hospital shortly after 2.30. She was suffering from head injuries and later succumbed. FATAL FALL FROM LADDER. WELLINGTON, April 11. Richard Gougli. a gardener of Woburn Road, Lower Hutt, fractured his skull when he fell from a ladder. He died in hosptal. An inquest will be held. FATAL LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. AUCKLAND. April 11. While an outgoing train was travelling towards Otahuliu at 1.45 this afternoon if struck a motor-car at the Southdown level crossing, smashing it against the cattle stop. Spence Atkinson. aged 64, residing at One Tree Hill, the driver of the car, was thrown out and fatally injured. The car, a light iivo-seater, was proceeding over tile crossing in the direction of the Great South Road and Atkinson slowed' down. The engine stalled when the machine was across the rails. Atkinson was thrown out, striking the stop with terrific force. The. ambulance was summoned, hilt the injured man died on the way to tin* Auckland hospital. MOTHER DROWNS CHILD. OTAKI, April 12. A child, four years old, named Mickoll was yesterday drowned in a hath. At an inquest a verdict was returned that the’child was drowned by its mother while of unsound mind.
