MANAIA.
(From Ou r Own Correspondent.) HIBERNIAN SPORTS. A general meeeting of the Manaia Hibernian District Sports Club was held on Saturday night, when there was a goo dattendanec, Mr J. A. HanI sen presiding. > The business of the evening was to make arrangements for the monster seven-a-side Rugby and soccer tournament which is to take place at Manaia on Saturday, April 13. Correspondence was received from the Taranaki Rugby "Union and the Football Association granting permission to hold seven-a-side tournament on that date. The following referees are to be written to asking them to control the Rugby games: Messrs K. McNae (Hawera), H. Whittington (Hawera). F. Atkins (Normanby), G. Hurley (Okaiawa), L. H. Clapham (Hawera), .1, Kilev (Hawera), J. Christie (Manaia). The matter of soccer referees was left in the hands of Dir G. Edwards. Other officials appointed were : Timekeepers, Messrs P. F. Hammonds and John Russell; line umpires, Messrs W. Bourke. G. Ryan, A. McCracken and N. Dudley. A working hee will he held on .Wednesday next, at 1 p.m. on tlje grounds, and a full muster is requested. The charge for admission at gate will he: Gents Is fid. ladies Is, children fid. The tournament is to commence at I p.m. There is cvhrv indication of a record number of teams competing tin’s year, and no doubt some very fine exhibitions of Rugby and soccer football will eventuate. MANAIA BAND. There was a general meeting of the committee of the Manaia Municipal Band and citizens hold on Saturday, when arrangements were made for the Taranaki primary .schools’ seven-a-side Rugby tournament and schoolgirls’ basket hall championship tournament, which is to take place on the Manaia Domain on June 3 (King’s Birthday). Two splendid silver challenge cups have been presented for the annual competitions, both Rugby and basket hull, by Mr. A. H. Yarrow, Maim in. The football cup is valued at L‘l i> lb's and the basket ball cup at £]<) J (Its. These are now on view in Mr. N. ti. Nielson’s window. They will also lie shown in different towns in TaranakiHawera, Eltham, Stratford, New Plymouth. and Opunako These challenge cups will be known as the Yarrow Challenge Cups. Mr, Yarrow is to be congratulated, on his splendid generosity, and the members of the Manaia Municipal Band are indeed very thankful to the generous donor. 1 Photos of these cups will be sent to every primary school in Taranaki. There is sure to he very been competition for them.
