LIFE-SAVING.
SCHOOL CHILDREN EXAMINED. Upwards of 50 pupils- of the Hawera Main School were presented for examination for the elementary certificate of the Royal Life Saving Society this morning, the proceedings being conducted in the. town baths. Mr J. J. Pease acted as examiner and expressed satisfaction with the work of the children. The following qualified: Boys.—Clifford Parkinson, Colin Nicholas. Ron Bucklaud, Fred Dallingor. Jack Crompton, Leslie Shaw, Arnold Hunter. Brian Clapham, James Collins. Girls.—Betty Smith, Jessie Beamish. Dorothy Jones, Jocelyn Lennon, Beryl Grindrod. Doreen Brown. Mondn Collins. Iris Nicholas, Phyllis Bates, Muriel Wright, Mary Thomson, Helen Collins, Alison Watts, "Zita Sinclair, blaisie Madgwick. Doris Gilmore, Ellen Prestige, Joy Lend rum, Peggy Robertson, .Till Hunter. Gwen Bernard. Dorothy Pinson, Jovee Adams, Elizabeth Evans. Messrs F. A. Bates (headmaster) and A. W. Lawn were responsible for the training of the children, whose ages ranged from nine to 15 years. NOR MANBY~SCHOOI>. Pupils of the Normanby school were put through this morning in the Hawera, baths for awards of proficiency, the following qualifying: Keith Cnxhead (175yds). George Haddon (150yds), Clarence Atkins (50yds), Gordon Hopcroft (50yds), Ivan Tippetts .(50yds), Ewan Cameron (25yds).
