lIAWERA CLUB. ELECTRIC LIGHT .CARNI-VAL. SEVERAL GOOD PERFORMANCES. Another largo crowd attended the Hawera Amateur Swimming Club’s third electric light carnival last night. Everyone anticipated witnessing excit- . ing sport, and no one was disappointed, there being many good contests. A feature or the evchlng was the attendance of the Technical High School band, which rendered several selections which were greatly appreciated by the large audience. Caretaker J. Dowdle had everything for the convenience of the swimmers and public in groat order, a special feature being an extension of the seating accommodation, and even now there is very little room for the increasing number of the public who attend each successive carnival. The presence of C. ("Stumpy”) Claridge (Wellington) and Miss N. Stratton (Wanganui) was keenly anticipated, and on being introduced to the audience they were 'accorded an ovation. At the conclusion of the sports both Claridge and Miss Stratton gave an exhibition of various styles of swimming which was a revelation to many. Several very close contests were witnessed during the evening, and the finish between Noble, and Claridge was a thriller, but the decision did not meet with the approval of all. The judges awarded n< dead-heat, but it appeared to many that Noble won on the touch. The officials responsible for the conduct of the evening's entertainment were as follows: Judges—Swimming, 1 , Messrs D. Strachan and D. C. Ryan; Diving, Mrs Higgs and Mr L. S.
