ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
KILLED BY A FALL OF COAL. (By Telegraph—press Association.) WESTPORT Feb. 28. James White, a single man aged 65, was killed at 10.30 o’clock this morning by a. fall of coal in the Westport main mine at Granity. SUPREME, COURT AT GREYMOUTH. GRBYMOOTH, Feb. 28. At the Supreme Count r-o-day * the Crown Prosecutor stated than he had ( been authorised to apply for a nolle prosequi in regard to two remaining indictments of theft against Denis Coiskloe.
The application was granted, and the accused was discharged. _ ■: Joshua Thomas Carson, for indecent assault, .was ordered to -be detained) for reformative detention for a period not exceeding ,two> years. Alexander Cams, for .bigamy, was sentenced: to twelve months’ imprisonment. Frederick William Bennett, for bigamy, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. . CHILD SCALDED TO DEATH. ! INVERCARGILL, Feb. 27. An inquest) into the circumstances surrounding the death of Raymond Birehall Btomlioid, aged one year and nine months, who died in Southland Hospital on Monday from severe scafds, was held before a ' Justice of .the Peace and jury of four yesterday. A verdict was returned _ that the child diedi from shock by slipping on the- ergei of a cesspit, into which boiling water was being ram with a view to clearing an obstruction.
