Tlx© first of twenty-enght Westland Wapiti aii-panes, destined to provide Australia with a fine up-to-date air fleet, was christened by Lady Ryrie at the Westland Airoratt Works, Yeovil. The first six will be tried out, dismantled and shipped to Australia witiiin a fortnight, the remainder completing the fleet in May or June. The W estland works are employing a thousand skilled men solely on airaraf£ and the present output is four Wapitis per week. The Australian machines are specially constructed of composite wood and duralamin, which means, lower initial cost, lower maintenance, as well! as providing an intermediate stop in, the change over from wooden to all cmieital;, in which Australian workers at present are not schooled.
