ENTERTAINMENTS.

• OPERA HOUSE, TO-NIGHT. “THE GOEDEN CLOWN.”. The sincere acting of Gcista Ekman and. Karina Bell in previous Banish pictures has won them a place in the hearts of all film patrons. It will be a matter of interest to. cinema-goers to hear that the talented pair are again to be seen, this time in “The Golden Clown,”, a British Dominion attraction screening at the Opera House to-night. Briefly the film straws h«w Joe Higgins, a clown in Building’s Circus, and Daisy Bunding, comedienne and daughter of the proprietor, marry when Joe is offered a Paris engagement. Joe becomes the rage of Paris but Daisy falls to the wiles of Marcel Philippe, a philanderer, and deserts her husband, who gradually sinks to the level of the travelling circus, broken by grief and drink. Meanwhile, Daisy has committed suicide. The climax of the film is reached with the discovery 'by Joe of his child of whose existence he is ignorant. The story is treated with a wealth of dramatic and emotional incident. The early scenes are full of youthful romance. Joe’s success is realistically treated and the big moment of the film is his discovery of his wife’s infidelity. Gotta, Ekman’s performance of Joe is wonderful. He rises to great heights, he is more than convincing. He is real. Karina Bell enhances her reputation as Daisy, while the veteran French actor, Maurice de Feraudy, is excellent as an old time circus proprietor. “The Golden Clown”, is one of tile best pictures to be seen at the present time and should on no account be missed. The box plan is at Miss Blake’s sweet shop.
