WELLINGTON PLAYS WAIKATO. BIG FIRST INNINGS LEAD. (By Telegraph—rress Association.) HAMILTON, Jan. 23. The Wellington cricket team commenced a two-day match here to-day against Waikato. The home eleven hatted first and made 109, B-adely contributing 29, Hemus 21, Skeet 12 and Hampton 12. In the second innings Waikato have eight runs up for the loss of no wickets.
Wellington made 209 in the. first innings. Dempster made 70 not. out and Rotherham 55. Byes totalled seven. Hoar took five vyiekets for 23, being the best visiting , bowler, while McLean, four for 35, and Clough, two for five, were most successful in this department for Waikato. HAMILTON, Jam. 23. The Wellington v. Waikato cricket match was abandoned on account of rain. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY.
