Mr. J. H. Salmon,- S.M., who is being transferred from Wellington to Wanganui in place, of Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., will assume bis duties there next Monday. Miss- J. Slattery, formerly of the staff of the Hawera Main School, who returned to the Dominion recently after a lengthy visit to Europe, arrived at Hawera iast evening and proceeded the residence of her sister Mrs. E. Long at Manaia. . Mr. Henry Westoott Climie, C.E., well-known in the North Island as engineer connected with several municipal works, died at Hastings yesterday afternoon, at the age of 71. The Rev. W- M. Glow, D.D., late* Principal of the Presbyterian Theological College at Glasgow and one of the most eminent, preachers and scholars of the Presbyterian Church, lias arrived at Auckland by the Marama (states a Press Association message from Auckland). He is making a world tour. His father built St. James Church at Auckland. He goes South in three weeks’ time.
Mr. T. H. A. .Valintine, late chief inspector of schools in Taranaki returned by the Ma-rama to Auckland to-day after visiting Great Britain, where lie investigated educational methods Avitk special reference to retardate children (states a Press Association message). He is making a report to the Director of Education.
