FURTHER CARNIVAL DATES.

A number of further dates for swimming carnivals as applied for by various clubs of the Taranaki centre were approved at a meeting of the centre executive held, at New Plymouth last evening. There were present: Mir F. J. Eggletou (chairman), Miss B. Gayton, Messrs W. Brown, M. Sma/le, G. F. Bertrand, H. J. Thomas, P. J. Flanagan, XST. HoweE and W. M. Phillips (secretary). Black, and green were approved -as the colours of the Okato dub. The Waitara dub was granted January' 24 as the date for its carnival, and the programme was approved. The affiliation of the Stratford dub was accepted, and January 30 and February 21 were granted as carnival

Opunake was granted February 2 fox its carnival. Inglewood applied foT January 17 and February 21 as carnival dates, and the former date was approved, but the application for February < was referred back to the clue, as the datd -had already been granted Stratford. The New Plymouth Club applied for and was granted February 23 as Ithe date for its carnival. A latex appHea- •. iron for the same date by the Ladies’ Life-Saving dub coiuld therefore not be granted, and February 9 was allocated instead. The programme of the Opunake Swimming Club for its' forthcoming car* nival was approved. The New Plymouth Club wrote, accepting the responsibEity of running ■the championships on condition it received 10 per cent, of the gross .takings. It was decided to offer the club half the net profits and toi guarantee it against loss. It was decided that clubs should be notified of the new method of starting, which is the reverse of the order previously used.

LIFE-SAVING TEAM.

0 OMPETITION REPRESENTATIVES A -meeting of the executive of th Taranaki head centre of the Royal Life Saving Society was held at New Ply mouth last night, when there were pne sent: Mr W. Brodie (president), Miss I Nancy Gardner (Ladies’ Life-SaVini I Club), R. G. HoweE (hon. instructor) jW. N. Stephenson (Opunake), H. W . Brown- and H. J. Anthony (Old Boys) D. Yon Stunner (Fitzroy), N. Beig< (East End) and L. L. Freethey (hon secretary). Affiliation- was granted to the neu 1 East End Surf Club, which stated Sir its application that it had a membership od 41 men and four ladies. Tm reply -to a request for conformation regarding the affiliation of a proposed surf club a,t Greenmeadows, near | Opunake, it was resolved to- ask for particulars as to membership, officers j and equipment of the proposed club, consideration of the request for affiliation was deferred until receipt of this information. The secretary was instructed to write to the various clubs asking for nominations' for the Tabor -Shield and Pennant competitions. It was resolved to appeal to the trustees of the McCarthy Trust for a; donation towards the centre’s funds. Considerable discussion took place on the question of whether the centre should be represented in- the William. Henry Memorial Trophy (four man) Surf rescue) competition at -the New Zealand championships at Wellington on February 5. It was finally resolved to send a team of four and a captain to take part in the competition, and that the centre be responsible for the itraiveEing expenses of the team. It was decided to make an -endeavour to -have the -team! billeted in Wellington. A committee consisting of Messrs W. N. Stephenson, R. G. HoweE and D. Von Sturmer was appointed to select a team.

The provisional selection of the following was subsequently announced, S. Cork ill to be captain and manager, but only four of the other five to be finally selected: S. OorkiH (Old Boys), captain and manager, J. H. Boon (Old Boys), 11. W. Brown (Old Boys), C. Plum-tree (Fitzroy), W. Toomey (FLtz-. roy), G. Harrington (Fitzroy, lpte Opunake).
