THEFT OF POSTAL PACKET. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 15. In the Magistrate’s Court, Tliigue John Logan, a clerk, aged 34, pleaded guilty to the theft or a postal packet containing postal notes to the value of £1 6s, and to removing a used stamp from a postal packet with intent to make use of it.
The police said the accused had been going round with a mail contractor when the offences occurred. His counsel said that the accused accompanied the contractor to fill in time, and felt the sudden temptation. He was desperately in need, being married, with a family,- and was unemployed. On the first charge the accused was fined £3, in default fourteen daj's’ imprisonment, and was ordered to make restitution. On the second charge he was convicted and discharged.
