HEAVY FINES INFLICTED

Following four raids carried out simultaneously on Chinese premises in Taranaki Street, a number of Chinese and Europeans were to-day charged Avith offences arising out of playing Pakapoo. Tavo Chinese avlh> Avere fined three months ago and avlio had straightAvay reopened a gambling business were each fined £4O, in default three months’ imprisonment. Tavo others Avere fined £2O each, in default six Aveeks’. imprisonment. Various other people found on the premises Avere fined sums varying in the region of £2 and £3.
