MADRID, Jan. 14.
.An expert -commission of engineers, •geologists and hy-drographers has selected a : point west of Tarifa from which to begin work on- the Straits of Gibraltar /tunnel. The commission will select a point on the African shore am February.
Technical problems are considered mot to offer great difficulties. The -tunnel would be only two miles- 'longer /than the Simplon tunnel; Which is 12J- miles long, but -economically the enterprise is regarded as hazardous, as- traffic is expected to prove hardly remunerative until the tunnel is connected with the African railways. This is unlikely to happen for many yea'rs.
