HOMELY HINTS.
Here are some little tips that will help you to keep your house spick and span. Necessity, the mother of invention, puts us wise to many things. She has taught me these things, and I think f they may be of use to you. 1 A Saucepan Tip. —If vegetables burn j and stick to the bottom of a cooking] utensil, throw baking powder on it, moisten, and let it stand for a while. This will clean the pan better than any powder, and will not injure it in any way. Gravy on the Tablecloth. —When gravy has been spilled on the clothj rub the grease spot thoroughly on both sides with French chalk. Fold the eloteh, and leave it thus until it is needed again; then, lightly brush off the chalk with a soft, clean brush, and the linen will he as spotless as though freshly laundered.
To Remove the Odour of 'Onions. — After frying fish, onions, or liver, put a little vinegar in the frying pan, boil for a few minutes, and all odour and taste will have disappeared. Mending a Cracked Bottle. —To mend a cracked bottle, use waterglass in syrup form—the sort you use for preserving eggs. Make the bottle hot by leaving it in the oven for a while; remove from the oven, cork closely, and paint all over the outside of the crack with waterglass. Put the bottle on one side and, as the air inside cools and contracts, the waterglass will he drawn into the crack so that it is completely closed. Leave it for a few days, when it will be quite fit for its usual purpose. _ . A Petrol Cleaning Hint. —To avoid a little salt to tlie liquid before applythe ugly ring which petrol leaves when used to clean a delicate material, add ing it.
