TWO MEN DROWNED.
FATALITY AT KAWHIA HEADS.
SAD END TO ATTEMPTED RESCUE.
Two men who tried to rescue two youths who got into difficulties while bathing were drowned off the beach an Kawhia on Wednesday afternoon. The names of the two victims- are: T. B. DMicar, a visitor from Hamilton, and] Clarence Hunter, aged 18, son of Dr. Hunter, of Te nwamutu (stated an Auckland message to the “Dominion.” There was a large number of picnickers at the- beach at the heads, near the hot springs, and some went in bathing. When two young men got into trouble and caliled for help, Dillicar and Hunter rushed into the water to give assistance. Dillicar got one lad ashore, and then saw that Hunter was in difficulties. He immediately swam out again and about that time the lad who Hunter was helping was washed up onj the beach. It was realised by the anxious waitellers on the shore that neither Dillicar nor Hunter could regain the beach. Immediately a number of women formed a chain and waded in to try to lielip. A woman at the end of the chain almost reached Dillicar, but at that moment a. big wave overwhelmed him. By that time Hunter had aliso disappeared. Still boldine hands the women fought their way back to the beach. Help was sent for and a search of the beach was. commenced. Dillicar’s body was recovered later in the day. Mr Dillicar was a very well-known resident of Hamilton. He was a man about 50 years old, and had! lived in Hamilton since .boyhood. With his brother, William Dillicar, hie once conducted a large departmental slore in the town, and latterly he had been manufaetuirng condiments on a large scale. He leaves a widow and) a 1 title girl of 10.
