CHEERING NEWS
LATE EDITION
THE KING’S CONDITION.
OUT OF IMMEDIATE DANGER.
SLOW, STEADY IMPROVEMENT.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph CopyrigQi.J (Auctralia.ii Press Association.) Received 1.25 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 20. The news of the past couple of days, so happily confirmed by to-day’s bulletin. i. s further strengthened by the fact that the doctors did not deem it necessary to issue a night bulletin. This had a remarkable effect throughout the whole country; in fact we may at least consider that His Majesty is out of immediate danger, and (that a slow but steady improvement seems to be assured. This has come as a veritable tonic on tue eve of the Christmas festivities and will have far-reaching effects. The inevitable complications as the result of such a dangerous illness has been felt over the whole of England and the greater part ox Europe. Trade, generally so brisk at this particular season, had reacted to the disadvantage of big and small traders alike. Thousands of big festivities were on the point of cancellation. The good news was discernible on the countenances of London crowds yesterday, and the fact that London is crammed with eager shoppers is an exceedingly cheering proof of His Majesty’s improvement.
It is stated that in connection with the riding school party at Buckingham Palace, not only was the King aware of its progress, hut that twice during the course of the day he asked how it was progressing and expressed hope that the men were enjoying themselves and he asked if they were getting everything. Following this afternoon’s bulletin, Sir Stanley Hewitt and Dr Woods again administered rays. Sir Stanley Hewitt, Lord Dawson, Sir Humphrey Rolleston, Sir Farquhar Buzzard, and Sir Hugh Rligby were in consultation for ninety minutes. The latter four left the palace at 8.30 p.m.
CONDITION CONTINUES SATIS-
FACTORY
Reoeived 1.53 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 20. In view of the issue of a bulletin this afternoon, none will be issued to-night, but it is officially stated that the King’s condition continued to be satisfactory.
DOCTORS MORE HOPEFUL
COMPLETE CONFIDENCE IMPOSSIBLE YET.
POSSIBILITY OF A SET BACK
Received 2.40 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 20. It is authoritatively stated that the doctors are very much more hopeful regarding the King’s ultimate recovery, but at present they cannot have complete confidence, because the King is in such a weak condition and exhaustion is so profound that the possibility of a setback cannot entirely be ruled out. The exhaustion, however, is much less than during the past few days and the King is in a much safer position, but he has not yet reached the level of complete safety. If the good progress continues for several days unchecked, absoslute confidence will be felt. The doctors! are not yet in a position to say when 1 that goal will be reached. In the meantime anxiety continues, but is considerably less acute than it was. Palace atmosphere is much more hopeful tonight. There were seven doctors at the palace to-night, including the ray specialists. It is understood that the object of the second visit was to continue the discussion for the future line of treatment. At present it is not known officially what decision was taken, it is also not known how long the ray therapy treatment will proceed. The Prince of Wales was in consultation with the doctors, Sir Stanley Hewitt again staying the night.
