RYE LIFEBOAT DISASTER

LONDON, Dec. 20. Five minutes’ delay in a telephone message cost 17 lives in the Rye lifeboat disaster. This was revealed at the Board of Trade inquiry. The lifeboat was launched at 6.45 and a message was received at 6.50 that the Alice’s crew had been rescued. The message originated from the North Foreland wireless .station at 6,12, but- took 38 minutes bo reach Rye through the various coastguard! station© 'because the call was not treated a® a life-saving message,
