MEM BERSHIP DECLINES

The J3.riiti.sh trad© unions and the Trade Union Federation continue to lose a large number of members. For the sixtii tune in the past seven years a deelin© lias been recorded. For the first time since 1916 the total membership has fallen below 5,060,000, that at the end of 1927 being 4,908,060. a reduction of 299,(XX) compared with 1926. The largest decreases were in the mining and quarrying unions, which lost 107,000, the railway services 79,000, and the metal groups 38,000.
