BOLTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. DONOVAN DEFEATS COTTERILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 10. T. Donovan (Waitara) defeated J. O'otterill (Petone) to-night on a technical knock-out in the third round of a scheduled fifteen rounds fight. The bout opened promisingly, Cotterill showing cleverness, but Donovan fought like a tiger. Twice he had Cotterill down for nine in the third round and when the Petone man went down again, the referee stopped the fight. Both men were fighting their first professional bout. HAWERA MEN PROMINENT. Three Hawera district boxers were successful'in their respective encounters in tne preliminary bouts at tne New Plymouth tourney last evening. E. Griffin, of lnalia (11.2), defeated the Taranaki welter and middleweight champion, L. Dombroski, of Waitara (16.9). Griffin ■ thus reversed the verdict at this year’s Taranaki championship gatnering when lie met Dombroski in the middleweight final and the decision went to Dombroski. If. Cate, ql; Hawera (11.9), defeated L. O’Keefe, of Kaponga (if.l2), the hitter, who secured tne heavyweight title at this year’s Taranaki championships, being another champion who had to accept defeat last evening. T. Sullivan, ol’ Hawera (9.1), beat A. Midgeley, of Eltham (9.0). These three winners, Griffin,_ Cate and Sullivan, have been pupils this* season of Mr J. C. Spavin, of Hawera, the middleweight, Griffin, also having been recently instructed by Mr Laurie Wills, of Hawera. Other of the preliminary bouts resulted as follows: Turner (8.7) beat Christiansen (9.6); D. Ro.ebuck (7.9) beat Skelton (8.0) on a technical knockout; Wallace (8.0), beat Dobson (8.3) on a 'technical knock-out. The flyweight, D. Roebuck, was defeated in this year’s final in that division at the Taranaki championships by M. Spavin, of Hawera, the pair also providing a pleasing exhibition bout at the recent military tourney at Hawera. McAllister, beats taylor. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND; Dec. 10. I n the tenth round of a fifteen-rounds contest to-niglit, Billy McAllister, ban-tam-weight champion of Australia, knocked out Frank Taylor, of Auckland. The bout was marked by much holding by Taylor.
