HAWERA METHODIST CHURCH. A YEAR’S REVIEW. ! The success achieved, iby th'e superintendent and staff of the Sunday School of the Hawera Methodist Church in. the work of 'training the young people was amply evidenced at the gathering of pupils and parents and friends last night in. the church, Mr E. Dixon, pro- * siding, When the prize®' for the year were presented by Rev. E. S. Emmibt. The annual report stated: We must thank God for the many blessings received during the year. Although 'only £ll wais received in the mission boxes, - £lO was donated toi foreign; ndssiosn, £6 ,to| homo missions, and £1 to Masteirton Orphanage. Twelve girls, have won the diploma this year, one 'girl, Elsie Radge, winning her seventh year seal. The. roll this year is about ten less than last year. Scholars and Bible classes, 181; teachers and staff, 21; total, 202.; average attendance', 149. Cradle Roll: Mrs Rowe is in charge of this department and thanks are due to her for looking after the little ones. There are 35 names on this rob. The infant class is the bright spot in the school and credit and thanks are due to Miss Squire and her assistants for the splendid work they are doing. The staff of teachers . are (doing good work and. to them axe tendered thanks for their legal work. Miss Cressey is in charge of- the birthI days and is doing her work. well. The pianist, Miss M. Harrell, is always in her place and -is a 'great help to the (superintendent. To all these officials o(ur best thanks alre tendered. We wish to thank Mr Pox and his assistant, Mr Kenyon (continued the report), for training the children for the anniversary. To the organist, Mr Thornber, we fender our thanks for .playing for us. To the superintendent, Mr Dixoin, we owe our deepest thanks, he having been 34 years in the school, for 23 of which he has' been superintendent. The balance-sheet showed receipts as follow: Collections, £l9 14s; anniversary, £lB 15s lOd; picnic, £ll ss; boxes, £ll 4s; concert, £7 14s Gd; while expenditure comprised: Anniversary £lB 9s sd; Picnic, £l3 6s Gd; missions, £l6; - orhpanabe, £6; S.S. Union, £G Is 10d; sundries, £l2 8s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £3l 9s 9d. Robert Radices’. Diplomas —Winners . were: Elsie Budge, seventh year; Peggy Yeaxbury, sixth year; Elsie Smith, Rhuda Watson, Barbara Foy, fourth year; Betty Yearbury, Noeline Smith, third year; Thelma Ingham, Doris Ingham, Enid Thornber, second year; Beryl i Grindrod and Esnie Manners, first year. The senior prize-winners were: Joyce Kni'ghibridge, Joan Grindrod, Ernest Wiknshurst, Iv. Wills, H. Wilmshurst, R. Smith, J. Thomson, C. Furness, T. Hurrell, Marion ArcbboM, Bessie Seed,.. Olive Archbold, Mary Cadman, Betty and Joyce Crompton, Margaret Evatas, Frances Wills, Joyce - Bates, Els'ai : [ Claridge, Lilian. Westwood, Nancy Manner, while all the tiny tots' received a book as a prize. No prize "having been provided for Joe Hall 1 , Mr Dixon donated ai special. Speaking of the prizes, Mr Dixon said that though the percentage of marks' for a diploma had been reduced, less young people had won them, and ho urged all to endeavour toi win the diploma. A number of the 'anniversary hymns were sung by the children, adding not a little to the, interest of the 'evening’s function.
