MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING.

HAWERA CLUB’S REUNION. A brief but comprehensive review of the activities of the Hawera Miniature Rifle Club was made by President E. J. Booth when he took the chair at the annual reunion of the club, which was held last night in the Carlton Rooms. A large number of members and friends were pi’esent, and a pleasant time was spent, an excellentprogramme of songs and recitations serving to add zest to the evening. The company first sat down to dinner, after which items were given by Miss Maisie Instone and Miss M. Tapp (recitations), Mrs. Moss (mouth organ solo, and Miss A. Whyte, Messrs. E. H. Piper and H. Bi-iggs (songs); accompanist, Miss Petersen. The toast of “The King” duly honoured, the president said that the past season for the Rifle Club had been successful in numbers and finance, though a late -start had been made because of the lire at the range. The club bad now an excellent range, and looked forward to even greater success in the future. During the season matches had been filled with the R.S.A., cadets, and outside clubs, and he thanked these institutions for help afforded. He referred to the fact that Mr. L. Uttinger had won the championship for the second year. In the laidies’ championship Mrs. S. R. Yeitch was successful, with Miss T. Ingram second, and Arnold’s team (Mrs. Veitch, Miss Petersen, Messrs. Allen and B. Watts) had won the teams’ match. He wished to thank the ladies for the suppers they had provided during the season, Dr. Buist for his great help, and the donors of trophies. Mr. Veitch, proposing the “Dominion Miniature Rifle Association,” said it was the parent body and essential for the well-being of the sport and for the working of the affairs in the Dominion. Mr. Bolton, replying, said that training in rifle shooting was the best anyone could get, and he urged all to learn to use the rifle. He said he noticed the ladies’ averages were better than the men’s, and lie urged the latter to see to it that this was altered. The toast of “Kindred Sports” was given by Mr. Page, who referred to the fine spirit of camaraderie existing amongst all sporting bodies, all of which endeavoured to see that they brought into their sports the same ideals of sportsmanship. Mr. Elgar replied, eulogising the champions in various sports who had put New Zealand on the map. “The Club” was proposed by-Mr. M. R. Jones" who traced the success of the club since its formation in 1922, and complimented' members on the success achieved. The president, replying, said the members enjoyed the- shooting and were keen enthusiasts. He urged all members to give their best to the welfare of the club. Other toasts honoured were “The Ladies” and “The Press.” During the evening the trophies won during the season were presented by Mr. J. Bolton.
