FARMER’S UNION (WOMEN’S BRANCH). Oil Wednesday afterneon Nurse Tnglis), of tlie Health Department, delivered an interesting address on the welfare of ehildren to a large gathering of members of the local'branch of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs. W. Lvndon presided, and in conclusion thanked Nurse Inglis for her instructive address. The ladies committee entertained all oresent with afternoon tea. The in- 1 terest- displayed in these addresses i shows that the local Indies appreciate both the Red Cross lectures and the social asnect of their union, and demonstrates the success of the division at Auroa. A strong concert party from Eltliam has consented to stage one of its popular concerts in aid of the school piano fund.

At Thursday’s meeting of the sehoo l committee the members expressed their thanks for the help rendered by the party last year. Thanks to them and a local ladies’ committee, only T 9 remains Hr he raised to ensure the purchase of a, piano through the Fducation Department. It is hoped that local peonle will support this concert, as Messrs E. Silver. S. Carson and E. Carter, and probably Mrs. Rankin, will he among the performers. During the past month the Education Board carpenters and plumbers have been at work repairing the school building and residence, and labour is to he engaged to put the grounds in order before the cessation of the school CHRISTMAS TREE. The ladies’ guild and other church workers arc holding their annual Christmas free function on Friday next. The choir is practising items to make this feature more attractive, j Father Christmas will he present. Thcj Sundav school prize-giving takes placet on the following Friday evening.
