8,000 IN ONE “FAMILY.”

To feed, clothe, house and educate some SOOO boys and girls is no hght undertaking, even in these days of wonders ; yet that is the daily task of Dr, Barnardo’s Homes. It was m the early ’sixties when the late Dr. Barnardo laid down his l now famous charter, “No destitute child ever refused admission.” Its inception arose out of his tragic personal experience when he learned that little “Carrots, to whom h& had offered the next vacancy, was 1 found dead in the streets from exposure and starvation. Never again must such a thing happen! From that day forward the doctor with the great heart determined that whether there was money in the hank or not no such child should ever he refused admission. Sixty-two years' have elapsed since then, and the tally of orphan and destitute little ones admitted to Dr. Barnardo’s Homes has now reached the high figure of 105,500. Five new arrivals swell the family every day. Two thousand and twentyfive boys and girl® and babies entered the ever-open door in 1927,. and the present number of the family is almost 8000, some hundreds of whom: are crippled or affilicted in various ways. Imagine meal time for 8000, not just once occasionally, hut three times, a day and every day in the year. Think in terms of bread, butter and jam. milk, fish, meat; and think also of boots and shoes by the thousands; likewise socks and stockings. The council of Dr. Barnardo’® Homes earnestly desire the help of all lovers of little children, especially at the Christmas season. Christmas fare for these needy hoys and girls means, of course, heavier hills for Barnardo’®. So here is your Christmas opportunity. Send them 10s, and get in return the joy of feeling that for at least ten days you are feeding one forlorn little one. To help Bamardo’s is to help the Empire, ’for thev are making A 1 citissen® l out of C3’s. Over 30,000 trained young people have been placed in the 'British Dominions. Cheques and orders may be made payable to “Dr. Barnardo’® Homes Food Fund.” and crossed', and addressed to “Dr. Barnardo’® 1 Homes Food Fund.” 18-26 Stepney Causeway, London, E.l.
